Integrations: Make your systems and website talk to each other!

Imagine you're in an online store. There you find something you like, you maybe leave your email to get a discount, pay with Vipps, and you can track the package all the way to its delivery in your mailbox. Everything happens seamlessly, without you thinking much about it. But behind the scenes, a lot happens – and the key to a smooth experience is precisely good integrations!

Integrations: Make your systems and website talk to each other!

A good user experience is the most obvious thing in modern web solutions, and something your customers take for granted. If you lack connections between the most important systems, it can negatively affect your conversions.

In this article, we explain what integrations actually are, which systems you should connect to your website, why you should do it, and how to get started – even without being technically inclined!

What is integration?

An integration is simply defined as different systems “talking together” without you having to manually move data from one place to another. When your website, payment solution, warehouse, and customer system are connected, data flows seamlessly between them. In an online store, this could mean that customer data, orders, and inventory status flow between different systems in real time. For example, when a customer places an order, this happens automatically:

  • customer data is stored
  • the warehouse is updated
  • order confirmation and receipt are sent out

The integrations make your everyday life easier with fewer errors and less duplication of work, and the customer gets a frictionless experience on the site from the first click to the completed purchase. When the systems work together, you don't have to spend time on unnecessary processes, and can instead focus on what actually creates value.

How does integration work?

This sounds great, you might be thinking, but how does this actually work technically? When different systems need to work together, a connection is created between them so that they can share information. This is done through an API (Application Programming Interface), where the API defines how the systems can “talk” to each other – securely and structured. Everything happens in the background, without manual handling. The result is a digital infrastructure where things “just work”. Delicious, right?

Website integrations

A regular website is often about visibility and information sharing – not necessarily direct sales. This is where it becomes important to capture leads and follow up on them. Here are some relevant integrations that make this easier.

  • Customer system : When someone submits a contact form, the information shouldn't end up in an email inbox and be forgotten. It should go straight into a CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, SuperOffice, etc.) so you can follow up with them systematically.
  • Newsletter : The subscription form on the website should be connected to your newsletter tool (Brevo, Mailchimp, MailMojo, etc.), so that new contacts are saved and receive welcome emails.
  • Booking system : If you offer services that require reservations, this should be bookable directly on the website (e.g. with Calendy or Simplybook).
  • Chatbot : By integrating chatbots (with e.g. Intercom or Zendesk), you ensure that visitors get answers right away and that inquiries are captured outside of business hours.

These integrations ensure that you avoid losing potential customers and get a system that works for you, even when you are not logged in.

Online store integrations

For online stores, integrations are more than just a benefit – they are absolutely essential for everything to come together. When someone places an order, the information should automatically be forwarded to the right place: payment should be registered, shipping should be planned, and accounting should be updated. These are the most important integrations that must be in place in an online store:

  • Payment solution : Customers expect to be able to pay quickly and easily. A good payment integration ensures secure checkout with options such as Vipps, Klarna and card payments.
  • Shipping and logistics : Integrations with players such as Bring and Helthjem allow shipping labels to be generated automatically, and customers to receive tracking without you having to follow up manually.
  • Accounting : With systems like Visma eAccounting and 24SevenOffice, payment data can be sent directly to accounting so you don't have to register it afterwards.
  • POS system : If you have a physical store, your POS and online store should be connected. Solutions like PCKasse ensure that inventory and sales data are synchronized.

Properly set up integrations give you an online store that is connected in every way and, not least, you avoid frustrating visitors with a fragmented and convoluted customer journey.

How to get started with system integration

Integrating smart systems with your website doesn't have to be complicated. Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. What is your need?
Do you want to save leads, send automated emails, or simplify accounting? Find out what you want to solve – and why.
  2. What are you already using?
Look at your starting point. Most modern tools have ready-made plugins or open APIs that can be easily integrated with your website.
  3. Remember to test
Make sure everything is working properly: that leads are sent correctly, orders are registered, and data is updated across systems.

When everything is connected, things run smoothly and you have more time to focus on operations, sales and growth!
