What is a concept?

A concept is a term most people can relate to, but what does it actually mean? Let us tell you about concepts.

Concept refers to a collection of abstract ideas or plans. It is a basis for creating something concrete, such as a product, service, business or event. The concept represents the thoughts and ideas that bring something tangible to life.

Definition of concept
The word "concept" comes from the Latin word "conceptus", meaning conception or that which is conceived. In a figurative sense, it refers to the inspiration needed to create or shape something, often in the form of an idea or plan.

How to develop a concept?
Developing a concept involves brainstorming ideas and combining them to form something. This is called concept development and consists of several phases. To develop a concept, you should go through these phases:

  • Idea development
  • Planning
  • Implementation
  • Assessment
  • Documentation

Example of a concept
The term concept is used in several different contexts and across industries. For example, in marketing, it can refer to the launch of a new concept for something that already exists, by giving it a new visual profile. It can also be described as a holistic approach or scheme. A business that stands out by selling something very special can be referred to as a concept. In addition, a concept can be referred to as a sketch, draft or draft text. For example, this could be a draft of a campaign.
